Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat visits diarrhoea-affected area

Punjab Horticulture, Freedom Fighters, and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat today visited New Gautam Nagar in Ward No. 60 of the city, where cases of diarrhoea had recently been reported.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann stands firmly with the affected families and will leave no stone unturned in providing treatment and other necessary facilities to the victims.

Bhagat informed that after the cases of diarrhoea surfaced, the administration immediately took precautionary measures, ensuring round-the-clock monitoring, medicines, and supply of clean drinking water in the area to prevent the spread of the disease. He said that a special medical check-up camp has been set up in the affected area to provide immediate health services to the people. In addition, health teams are also conducting door-to-door surveys to identify affected individuals and ensure their timely treatment.

On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister also inspected the site where the problem arose due to contaminated water supply. He directed the Municipal Corporation to rectify the fault immediately. He further informed that around 35 people who had been admitted to the Civil Hospital for treatment have recovered, while 10–15 patients have been referred to the Civil Hospital to ensure proper medical care.

Directing the Health Department to take effective steps for the prevention of diarrhoea, Bhagat said that proper treatment of patients must be ensured and no laxity will be tolerated in this regard. He also instructed the Health Department to ensure regular testing of water. Apart from this, he directed the officials of the Municipal Corporation to repair the damaged pipeline at the earliest to provide relief to the people.

The Cabinet Minister said that during the rainy season, it is very important to remain cautious as the risk of diseases spreading is at its peak. He appealed to the people to use drinking water only after boiling it or by adding chlorine tablets as advised by health officials.

On this occasion, SDM Shairy Malhotra, Joint Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mandeep Kaur, Dr. Raman Gupta, Dr. Rakesh Chopra, officials of the Health Department and Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, and Councillors Gurjit Singh Ghumman, Ramesh Rana, and Pawan Sharma were also present.
