Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that in view of the continuous rainfall, the district administration is keeping a 24×7 close watch on the situation in flood-prone areas along the Sutlej River and is fully prepared to deal with any circumstances arising out of possible floods.
The Deputy Commissioner said there is absolutely no need for people to panic as the river water is currently below the danger mark. However, he assured that the administration is fully equipped and prepared to tackle any situation.
Dr. Aggarwal said that instructions have already been issued to administrative officers to personally visit the field and review the ground situation so that any untoward incident can be controlled in time.
He added that in case of rising water levels leading to flood-like conditions, the administration has proper arrangements and readiness to immediately carry out relief operations.
He informed that the administration has an adequate number of sandbags, essential machinery, and rescue teams in place. Safe locations have already been identified where people can be shifted if required. For the convenience of the public, a district-level flood control room has been set up with phone number 0181-2224417. Similarly, sub-division level flood control rooms have also been established. The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration is fully committed to safeguarding the lives and property of the people and will leave no stone unturned to ensure their safety and assistance.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, SDM Nakodar Lal Vishwas Bains, SDM Shahkot Shubhi Angra, and SDM Phillaur Parleen Kaur are inspecting the flood-prone areas in their respective jurisdictions to review the situation.
