The swollen Beas river has started damaging 500 to 600-feet-long advance dhussi bund inside dhussi bund which would cause damage to more than 35 more villages in the mand areas of Sultanpurlodhi according to an official of drainage department.
Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, along with his followers who are camping near the flood site, have started filling bags with sand to strengthen the damaged portion of advanced dhussi bund to save the more than three dozen villages from the fury of floods.
Meanwhile swollen Beas river has again started rising and the water level in the morning is 1.16 lakh cusecs, inundating more than 20 villages whose paddy crops have been submerged under water.
Farmer Jarnail Singh of village Baupur, who had sown paddy crops on 10 acres of agricultural land said that his entire crop was swept away by flood waters of Beas river and he is very much worried about the land, which might not be eroded by flood waters.
Similarl,y farmer Inderjit Singh of Baupur Bajid is also worried about the crops sown over 35 to 40 acres, as flood water also swept away the crops, and now the river is flowing in his fields.
Sant Seechewal said the flood situation is very grim and farmers are worried about their fields, belongings and cattle.
Seechewal and his followers distributed fodder in their motor boats at village Baupur and also arranged langar for the marooned farmers.
