Yudh Nashian Virudh: District Administration to organize the ‘Jalandhar Premier League’ to keep youth away from drugs and connect them with sports

Under the anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ launched by the Punjab Government, to keep the youth away from drugs and engage them in sports, the District Administration, in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society, is going to organize the ‘Jalandhar Premier League’, which will commence on August 28 on the eve of National Sports Day.

Reiterating the commitment of the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, to make the state a ‘Drug-Free, Rangla Punjab’, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that this initiative of the District Administration is being undertaken to encourage the youth towards sports.

During a meeting with officials regarding the Premier League, the Deputy Commissioner informed that during the ‘Jalandhar Premier League’ competitions will be held in various sports including Volleyball, Football, Basketball, Handball, Judo, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Cricket, and Athletics. He directed the officials to ensure all necessary arrangements for the league in a timely manner.

He informed that the league will start with cricket matches to be held at the district level between under-19 teams of schools and cricket academies. Likewise, district-level competitions of Judo, Basketball, and Kho-Kho will be organized for under-19 and under-25 age groups of schools/colleges.

Dr. Aggarwal further informed that, in addition, district-level competitions of School Kabaddi (National Style) under-17, Handball under-17, and Hockey under-17 age groups will be organized. Apart from this, athletics competitions will be held, including men’s 100 meters, 400 meters, 1500 meters, and 5000 meters events, Long Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin Throw. Similarly, women’s events of 100 meters, 400 meters, 800 meters, 3000 meters, Long Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin Throw will also be organized.

He further added that Volleyball and Football competitions will be held at both block and district levels in under-19 and under-25 categories, in which college students and clubs can participate. He informed that these competitions will be held at different venues and the winners will be honored with cash prizes by the District Administration.

Dr. Aggarwal said that entries for the Jalandhar Premier League will be taken till August 18 and the draw will be held on August 22. He said that for more information regarding registration, one can contact mobile numbers 86995-75095, 98146-10524.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amaninder Kaur Brar, Assistant Commissioner (UT) Mukilan R., District Sports Officer Gurpreet Singh, Deputy District Education Officer Rajiv Joshi, Secretary District Red Cross Society Surjit Lal, and others were also present in the meeting.
