Water level in Beas river further goes up to 1.25 lakh cusecs, inundates more than 20 villages in Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi

The water level in the already swollen Beas river has further risen to 1.25 lakh cusec inundates 22 villages in the Mand area of Sultanpur Lodhi.
Drainage department SDO Singh said that rise in water level would not cause much damage to already marooned villages submerged under 4 to five feet of water and the situation of floods is same for the past more than three days.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and his followers have rescued about 100 residents living the worst flood affected village Baupur to safer places. Seechewal and his followers have arranged community kitchen for flood affected persons and arranged fodder for animals. It has become very difficult to plug 100 feet wide breach as the flow of river water is very high and work on plugging would start when water level decreases and department was readying sand bags to plug the breach said SDO.

The worst affected villages Baupur, Baupur Kadim, Jadid and Sangra where standing paddy crops had been submerged under five to six feet of water. Meanwhile, Seechewal has pressed into service two motor boats to deliver cooked food and fodder for animals in the worst affected villages. In response to rising water levels in the Beas River, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal stated that a relief center has been established in Government School, Lakh Varhian, in the Mand area to support affected residents.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) has been appointed as the overall in-charge of relief operations and flood prevention measures. She will be stationed at Sultanpur Lodhi to oversee all arrangements, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.

The relief center is fully equipped with essential supplies, including dry rations, drinking water, medicines, and other relief materials. Medical teams are deployed to provide immediate healthcare assistance as needed. Dr. Jaspal Singh Dhanju, Agricultural Development Officer, has been designated as the relief center in-charge to manage operations on the ground.

Deputy Commissioner Panchal urged residents of low-lying areas in the Mand region to relocate to the relief center, where adequate arrangements for accommodation and support have been made. He emphasized that the district administration is fully committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all affected individuals.

Senior officials from the Drainage, Revenue, Health, and Animal Husbandry departments have been directed to remain stationed at Sultanpur Lodhi to support relief efforts and address any challenges promptly. The Drainage Department has been instructed to maintain continuous monitoring of the Dhussi embankments, including nighttime patrols, to prevent breaches and ensure structural integrity.
