BIS organizes sensitization program for district officials of Jalandhar

As per the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) organized a sensitization program for district officials at the DC Office, Jalandhar.

The event was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development), Vivek Kumar Modi as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he appreciated the initiative of BIS and stressed the importance of adhering to Indian Standards to enhance the quality and safety of public services and infrastructure.

Director & Head, BIS JKBO Tilak Raj, addressed the participants and highlighted the pivotal role of BIS in promoting standardization, quality assurance, and consumer protection, especially in public utility services. He emphasized the significance of this capacity building initiative in enhancing the technical capabilities of district-level officials for improved service delivery, consumer safety, and quality-driven procurement practices.

He further encouraged the adoption of ISI-marked products in all government procurement processes to ensure safety, durability, and compliance with national standards. A detailed presentation on BIS activities was also delivered by Mr. Tilak Raj, covering key areas such as standard formulation, product certification, hallmarking, laboratory testing, and consumer outreach initiatives.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from officials representing various government departments including Rural Development, Agriculture, Forest, Health, Public Works, Education, and Urban Local Bodies.

This initiative forms part of BIS’s ongoing efforts under the Quality Connect Initiative, aimed at sensitizing and equipping government functionaries with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement standards in governance and service delivery.
