Cabinet Minister Mohinder inaugurates Day Care Cancer Chemotherapy Centre at Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital

To provide free chemotherapy facilities to cancer patients near their homes, Punjab’s Minister for Horticulture, Freedom Fighters, and Defence Services Welfare Mohinder Bhagat today inaugurated the Day Care Cancer Chemotherapy Centre at Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital here.

Accompained by Halqa Incharge Nitin Kohli, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurmeet Lal, the Cabinet Minister said that with the start of this facility at the Civil Hospital, cancer patients, who earlier had to go to Chandigarh and Amritsar for treatment, will greatly benefit. He said that with the opening of this centre, the health and financial difficulties of cancer patients will also reduce.

Bhagat informed that this 8-bed Day Care Cancer Chemotherapy Centre is equipped with medicines, oxygen, and all required facilities, and now cancer patients can avail free chemotherapy at the Civil Hospital under the supervision of oncology specialist doctors. He also interacted with the admitted patients at the centre and inquired about their well-being.

The  Minister said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is committed to providing high-quality healthcare services to the people of the state, and under this commitment, the state government is further strengthening government healthcare institutions.

It is noteworthy that after Bathinda, the Civil Hospital Jalandhar has become the second district hospital in Punjab to have a Day Care Cancer Chemotherapy Centre.

Earlier, Bhagat, while presiding over the quarterly meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti at the Civil Hospital, instructed health officials to provide even more effective healthcare services to patients coming to the Civil Hospital.

During the Samiti meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the Civil Hospital’s sewerage pipeline, repair of bathrooms, increasing the number of security guards, cleanliness, etc. The Cabinet Minister informed that cleanliness-related work has already started at the Civil Hospital, and a project to improve the sewerage system will be initiated soon.

The Minister also reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to revamping the Civil Hospital. He reviewed the ongoing work of the Critical Care Unit being constructed near the Civil Hospital. He said that upon completion of this project, patients requiring critical care will get relief from the expensive treatment in private hospitals.

Present on the occasion were Medical Superintendent Dr. Rajkumar, Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Raman Gupta, SMO Dr Surjit Singh, Dr. Satinder Bajaj, Dr. Prabhsaran Kaur, officials of various departments, and members of the Samiti.
