Youth Akali Dal President and Core Committee member of the Shiromani Akali Dal, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, today launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party after he was illegally detained for over 9 hours by the Punjab Police.
In a statement released here, Jhinjer said, “Today, the Aam Aadmi Party’s fear of the Shiromani Akali Dal and its workers has become evidently clear. Bhagwant Mann, who once claimed there were no workers left in Akali Dal, is now so scared of those very workers that he sends a massive police force in the early hours and illegally detains them to silence their voice.”
Explaining further, he said, “Today, 8–10 police officers came to my house at 4 AM, took away my and my family’s phones without giving any reason, and detained us. When we repeatedly asked, they said it was a ‘security check’. What kind of security check is conducted at 4 in the morning? And why was it necessary to confiscate our phones for this so-called check? Only after word got out through villagers and local Akali leaders started arriving at my residence did the police take me in their car, drove me around to different places just to waste time, and finally released me at 1 PM—conveniently after Bikram Singh Majithia Ji’s hearing was over.”
He further added, “If the Bhagwant Mann government is so confident about its case against our leader Bikram Majithia, then why does it need to resort to such underhanded tactics? On one hand, Bhagwant Mann claims Akali Dal is finished, and on the other hand, he does everything in his power to prevent us from even assembling—clearly showing his fear of the Akali Dal.”
Jhinjer concluded with a strong message to the Chief Minister: “Let me make it clear, Mr. Mann—no amount of intimidation will stop me or the Shiromani Akali Dal from speaking the truth and standing up for the people of Punjab. Your days are numbered, Mr. CM. You’d do better to spend them serving Punjab instead of indulging in vendetta politics.”
