Jalandhar Administration fully prepared to effectively handle any potential flood-like situation: Deputy Commissioner

In view of the ongoing monsoon season, the Jalandhar Administration is fully prepared to effectively handle any potential flood-like situation in the district, as robust arrangements have already been ensured by the administration to tackle any such condition.

Sharing this information, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that the conditions in the district are completely normal, and there is no need for anyone to panic. He informed that keeping the rainy season in mind, comprehensive measures for flood prevention, including cleaning of canals, drains, water channels, and drainage systems in cities and villages, strengthening of river embankments, and dewatering of ponds in villages, have been finalised.

He further informed that to tackle any emergency immediately, arrangements such as the availability of an adequate number of sandbags, floodlights, searchlights, life jackets, ropes, boats, and other required equipment have already been made.

Additionally, for the convenience of the public, flood control rooms have been set up at the district and sub-division levels where people can contact in case of emergency situations.

Dr. Aggarwal mentioned that the administration has also conducted several mock drills related to flood safety. Recently, a flood protection exercise was conducted by the district administration with the support of the Indian Army, NDRF, SDRF, and other departments at village Talwandi Kalan along the Sutlej river.

Reiterating the Punjab Government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of life and property of people during the monsoon season, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the district administration is keeping a close watch on every situation. He added that the administration has ensured the cleaning of all canals and drains passing through the district, and if any village faces issues related to drainage blockages, people can contact the concerned SDM.
