As part of Punjab Government’s endeavour to plant maximum saplings for increasing green cover, the District Administration in association with the Forest Department would launch massive plantation drive in this month.
Holding a review meeting in this regard at local Bachat Bhawan, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Amarjit Bains interacted with officials of different departments to ensure effective drive. He said that departments would play a proactive role for planting maximum saplings in the district. He said that the departments should also apprise about the list of varieties of saplings to his office as well as a Forest Department.
On this occasion, IAS (Under Training) Dr. Pragati Rani was also interacted with the officials and nodal department . She emphasised that the area under green cover should be increased and all of us would sincerely efforts.
The ADC said that 14 nurseries of the district under the Forest Department will provide fruit-bearing, shade-bearing, ornamental etc. varieties of saplings. These saplings will be planted on panchayat lands, around village ponds, roadsides, educational institutions, health care centers, on farmers’ tubewells by the Agriculture Department and on their vacant lands by each department to increase greenery. He asked the heads to appoint nodal officers in their respective departments so that the saplings can be planted and maintained. He said that each department should take a keen interest in achieving the target. He also emphasized about the contribution of trees in preserving the environment, improving air quality, protecting water and soil health and said that the youth should become ambassadors of environmental conservation to make ‘Green, Clean and pollution free Ludhina’.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that those interested in planting saplings can get saplings from various nurseries in the district, under which Abhishek Sharma (81980-81888) can be contacted for the Doraha and Khanna nurseries under Doraha Range. Amarjit Bains said that keeping the environment clean and taking steps to prevent pollution are very commendable initiatives, which should be replicate in other districts also.
Giving information about the importance of greenery, the ADC said that plants are a big source of free oxygen for us and they help in protecting the environment from pollution. He said that plants are of great importance in human life and to improve the environment which is getting polluted day by day, we should plant more and more trees.
