Ludhiana, Punjab June 19: Aykai Hospital has successfully performed Punjab’s first UroLift procedure on a 60-year-old patient suffering from bothersome urinary symptoms due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), commonly known as prostate enlargement and this innovative procedure gave an efficient solution to this common prostate ailment.

The breakthrough procedure was performed by *Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh, Chief Urologist and Transplant Surgeon at Aykai Hospital, Ludhiana. Sharing details of the procedure, Dr. Aulakh stated, “The UroLift system is a simple, minimally invasive treatment that uses tiny implants to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue away from the urethra. This opens the channel for urine flow without cutting, heating, or removing any prostate tissue.”

Hence there are no side effects or complications associated with doing away with the prostate.

“At Aykai Hospital in Ludhiana, Dr. Aulakh is dedicated to offering world-class, patient-first healthcare by combining a humane approach with cutting-edge medical technology from around the globe.”

The patient had been experiencing long-standing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), such as frequent urination, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying. He chose the UroLift system as a less invasive alternative to traditional surgeries and medications.

“What makes this procedure truly unique,” Dr. Aulakh emphasized, “is that it preserves sexual function and does not cause long-term erectile or ejaculatory dysfunction — a major concern with most surgical treatments.”

Compared to conventional surgery, the UroLift system offers several advantages:

Shorter procedure time and recovery

  • Minimal risk of complications
  • Immediate symptom relief in most cases
  • Outpatient setting—patients go home the same day
  • Best for high risk heart patients, due to brief pause of anticoagulants

With this milestone, Aykai Hospital reinforces its commitment to offering cutting-edge urological care to patients in Punjab and beyond. Other team members included Dr. Amit Tuli, Dr. Gourav Mittal, Dr. Naresh Lodhi, Dr. Himanshu Sharma, Dr.Ather,  Anaesthesia team & Teleflex Medical India.
