In a solemn tribute to the unwavering courage and patriotism of India’s armed forces, a special honouring ceremony organised by Fact News Media & Network was held on Saturday, June 14, at the Press Club, Chandigarh. The event, spearheaded by Monish Behl, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Fact News, brought together war veterans, families of martyred soldiers, senior defence officials, and distinguished citizens to pay homage to the valour, dedication, and ultimate sacrifices made by India’s brave servicemen and women. Behl, a prominent industrialist from the Middle East and a well-known philanthropist, has been at the forefront of initiatives like these in the past.
The ceremony commenced at 10:00 a.m. and was graced by none other than Param Vir Chakra awardee Subedar-Major Sanjay Kumar, whose presence was a powerful reminder of the extraordinary gallantry exemplified by the Indian armed forces.
Delivering the keynote address, Lieutenant General Bhopinder Singh (Retd.), former Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry, spoke eloquently on the enduring legacy of India’s defence forces. Reflecting on decades of military history, he praised the unflinching spirit of those who serve and those who have laid down their lives in the defence of the nation.
Adding a voice of civil solidarity to the proceedings, Mr. Monish Behl, in a heartfelt message, reiterated the stellar role of the armed forces and also the solid backing of the present government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His long-standing commitment to honouring defence personnel was widely appreciated by those in attendance.
Anuj Gupta, Managing Director of Atulya Healthcare, also spoke on the occasion, sharing how he was recently overwhelmed during Op Sindoor, where numerous young people volunteered for service. He expressed how deeply proud such moments made him feel about the Indian armed forces and the nation.
The event featured three thoughtfully curated sessions. The first two celebrated acts of battlefield heroism and chronicled stories that have become part of India’s proud military tapestry. Families and fellow officers recounted anecdotes of bravery, resilience, and sacrifice, creating an atmosphere of both solemn remembrance and immense pride.
The third and final session, beginning at 12:30 p.m., was the emotional core of the event. It was dedicated to formally honouring the families of martyred soldiers and decorated veterans who have contributed immensely to the nation’s security and honour. Amid standing ovations and floral tributes, commemorative plaques were presented to the heroes of the armed forces.
