As part of the Punjab Government’s intensified campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has directed the Education and Police Departments to take strict action against the sale of drug substances near schools and colleges in the district.

Chairing a meeting of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD), Dr. Aggarwal, accompanied by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur and SSP Harvinder Singh Virk, asked the Education Department to conduct a thorough inspection of schools, particularly in areas identified as drug hotspots. He directed that a detailed report highlighting schools vulnerable to drug abuse be submitted by July 15, 2025.

Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the importance of involving students in gathering feedback about any suspicious activities near their institutions. He warned that any laxity in reporting such places would not be tolerated and strict action would be taken against negligent officials. He added that following the submission of the report, the Police Department will launch targeted crackdowns to curb the sale of drug substances around schools.

The DC also asked the Health Department to take the same level of action against medical drugs as taken in case of synthetic drugs. He emphasized the need for treating sale of medical drugs at par with other form of drugs. In another major decision, the Deputy Commissioner asked the Police department to further strengthen the vigil at inter-state and inter-district checkpoints, especially checking the synthetic and pharmasuitical drug peddling from other states.

Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur informed that a joint survey has been initiated to identify the sources of drug supply to block distribution at the origin. She reaffirmed the Punjab Government’s commitment to eradicating drugs from society.

Citizens have been urged to share information on drug-related activities through WhatsApp at 9779-100-200, with assurances of confidentiality.

Health officials informed that two de-addiction centers are operational at Civil Hospital Jalandhar and Nurmahal, along with a rehabilitation center at Shekhe village and several outpatient clinics. The DC also highlighted that the District De-Addiction Helpline (0181-2911969) is available for further support.
