BBMB Case: Punjab objects to Centre’s inability to present records; hearing to resume on May 23

Chandigarh, May 23

The hearing in the ongoing Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) case will continue tomorrow after a nearly two-hour-long session in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today. During the proceedings, the Punjab government raised strong objections over the Centre’s failure to present the necessary records regarding water allocation to Haryana.

Punjab’s legal counsel pointed out that in the earlier court order dated May 6, it was mentioned that the Centre had made a decision on May 2 to provide water to Haryana. However, no official documentation supporting this claim was presented in court today.

The Punjab side argued that the Centre’s inaction and lack of transparency are concerning, especially given the sensitivity of the issue. The matter has been challenged under a review petition, and the court has decided to continue the hearing on this petition tomorrow.

This case remains significant as it pertains to the long-standing dispute over water sharing between Punjab and Haryana.
