Haryana Cabinet Minister for Power, Transport, and Labour, Anil Vij has strongly criticized the Punjab government for its decision during a special Assembly session to block the SYL canal water supply to Haryana.
He said this move is unacceptable at a time when the nation faces rising tensions and must display unity.
“Punjab’s leaders should be ashamed for taking divisive steps when the country is preparing for a possible war-like situation,” said Vij, urging Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to immediately resolve the issue in the interest of national unity.
Referring to the recent developments between India and Pakistan, Vij claimed that the Punjab government acted in retaliation to India stopping water flow to Pakistan by blocking Haryana’s water supply.
“This is a deeply concerning conspiracy,” he said. “Earlier, Haryana was receiving its rightful share of water. Even BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) and the Union Home Secretary have directed that 8500 cusecs of water be given to Haryana.”
Anil Vij warned that such internal conflicts over resources could have serious consequences for the armed forces and overall national security. “At a time like this, internal unity is essential,” he added, emphasizing that state-level disputes must not override national interest.
He reiterated his appeal to Punjab’s leadership to reconsider its stance and ensure that Haryana receives its fair share of SYL water, warning that prolonged conflict could have “dangerous outcomes.”
