Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora launched a mega cleanliness drive from Hambran Road early this morning, emphasising the importance of sanitation and public participation in keeping the city clean. He was joined by Councillor Maninder Kaur Ghuman, MC Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo, Zonal Commissioner Jasdev Singh Sekhon, and Health Officer Dr. Vipal Malhotra.
Setting a personal example, Arora was seen sweeping the roadside with a broom, actively participating in the drive.
In an informal interaction with the media persons, Arora shared that daily teams of 80–100 safai sewaks visit different areas as part of this initiative. “Around 12 km of roads are cleaned every day, and waste collected from road corners is lifted using tractor-trolleys,” he said. Each team covers about 2 km daily, in addition to the regular cleaning done by the Municipal Corporation.
Reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to sanitation and hygiene, Arora noted that the drive has been ongoing for over a week and will continue in the coming days.
Arora—the AAP candidate from Ludhiana (West) Assembly constituency said, “Cleanliness is not just a duty. It’s the foundation of a healthy, dignified life. A clean city reflects the pride and discipline of its people. Together, let’s make our surroundings as pure as our intentions.”
He made a fervent appeal to the public to cooperate with authorities and contribute to maintaining cleanliness in the city.
Arora also took feedback from the safai sewaks and expressed his heartfelt appreciation for their hard work. As a gesture of gratitude, he approached a nearby roadside sattu drink vendor and arranged for 100 glasses of the traditional drink for safai sewaks. Personally checking on their well-being, he asked several safai sewaks, “Have you taken the sattu drink?” The safai sewaks warmly appreciated his humility and thoughtfulness.
