The Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will completely eradicate drugs from the state and strict action is being taken against drug smugglers. Their illegal properties are also being confiscated. This was stated by Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar while addressing the members of Gram and Ward Defence Committees, Panchs and Sarpanchs present at the “Pind De Pehredaar” program organized at Police Line Ground, Tarn Taran under the “Yuddh Naasheyan Viruddh” campaign today.
On this occasion, Aam Aadmi Party’s working president and MLA of Batala constituency Amansher Singh Kalsi, MLA Khemkaran Sarwan Singh Dhunn, MLA Tarn Taran Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal, Deputy Commissioner Rahul, SSP Abhimanyu Rana, besides Majha Coordinator of Nasha Mukti Morcha Sonia Mann, District Coordinator Aminder Ami and a large number of district residents were present.
During this, Minister Bhullar administered the oath of de-addiction to all the people present and warned the drug smugglers to either stop this business of poison or leave Punjab. He said that strict action will be taken against such anti-social elements.
He said that under the “Yuddh Naasheyan Viruddh” campaign of the Punjab Government, drug smugglers will be rooted out from the entire state. The Chief Minister has given a free hand to the police by directing them to take immediate action against the drug dealers. He appealed to the people to spread awareness about the ill effects of drugs in villages, wards, streets and mohallas and to inform the police about any drug smuggler so that strict action can be taken against him.
The minister said that the members of “Pind De Pehredaar” i.e. the protection committees of villages and wards should take the lead in this decisive battle and run campaigns against drugs in their respective areas. He said that the Panchayats should pass such resolutions that no bail of any kind will be given to those selling drugs.
On this occasion, Bhullar said that under this ongoing war against drugs, village protection committees have been formed, which include Panch-Sarpanch and other members who are playing an important role in this campaign. He reiterated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, this fight will continue till the end of drug menace.
He called upon the Gram Raksha Committees and Panchayat representatives to become the watchmen of the villages and help the government in the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts, so that such people can be brought into the mainstream and given a new life.
Bhullar also said that the Central Government wants to loot the water of Punjab and is trying to push the state into a dark phase once again, but the Punjab Government will strongly oppose this and will not let the state’s share of water go to other States.
Aam Aadmi Party’s working president and MLA Amansher Singh Kalsi said that today there is a need to go from village to village and save our young generation. Public participation is necessary in the decisive battle against drugs being fought under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
MLA Khem Karan Sarwan Singh Dhunn said that the government is concerned about our youth and this battle is for our identity, in which the support of the public is necessary.
MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal said that drug addiction is a serious problem afflicting the society and a mass movement is needed to end it. He appealed to the members of the village and ward defense committees to be a part of this campaign and make people aware of the ill effects of drugs.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul gave information about the public awareness campaign going on in the district, the efforts being made by the committees, the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts and the Nasha Mukti Yatra starting across the district from May 7 and appealed to the people to join it.
SSP Abhimanyu Rana shared information about the arrests made so far, the drugs recovered and the property of drug smugglers confiscated and appealed to the public for cooperation in this mission.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Rajdeep Singh Brar, ADC Development Sanjeev Sharma, SDM Tarn Taran Arwinder Pal Singh, SDM Patti Inderpreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner General Dr. Karanveer Singh, besides Chairman of Punjab Warehouse Corporation Gurdev Singh Lakhana, Chairman of District Planning Committee Gurwinder Singh Baherhwal, Chairman of Water Resources Board Ranjit Singh Cheema, Vice Chairman Forest Corporation Gurdev Singh Sandhu, Chairman Dilbag Singh, PSPCL Director Jasbir Singh Sursingh and District Head Anju Verma were also present.
