Ludhiana, April 24

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora, along with Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, opened the civic body’s Olympic-size swimming pool for the season on Thursday morning.

On the occasion, MP Arora expressed hope that the pool would provide much-needed respite from the scorching heat and offer residents an opportunity to stay fit. Situated near Rakh Bagh, the 50m x 25m Olympic-size pool is the largest in the city.

He emphasised that the facility is among the biggest in the region and welcomed residents to make full use of it for better health and fitness. He added that the pool would not only serve the general public but also support athletes and NDRF personnel in their training and skill development.

Highlighting the benefits of swimming, Arora noted that it is a full-body workout that enhances cardiovascular health, builds strength, endurance, and flexibility, while being easy on the joints. He added that swimming also reduces stress, promotes relaxation, improves sleep quality, and contributes to overall mental well-being.

Mayor Inderjit Kaur shared that residents can enroll by filling out an application form along with the required documents, available at the pool site. The seasonal fee must be submitted at the MC Zone D office in Sarabha Nagar. The pool will remain open to the public until October 31, 2025.

Separate time slots have been allocated for men, women, and couples, beginning from 5:00 AM daily. Residents can choose to pay a seasonal fee or opt for a lifetime membership at a fixed rate. The civic body has ensured that the seasonal fee is more affordable than that of other pools in the city.

To ensure the safety of users, trained swimming coaches and lifeguards have been deployed. Additionally, filters have been installed to maintain water cleanliness and hygiene.

During the opening ceremony, MP Arora and Mayor Inderjit Kaur also felicitated several district-level athletes.

Councillor Nandini Jairath, Chief Engineer Ravinder Garg, Executive Engineer Ekjot Singh, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
