Under the Punjab Government’s campaign “Yudh Nashian Virudh”, the rehabilitation centre operating in Shekhe village is being developed into a model de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at the state level.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal and Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur visited the rehabilitation centre today and reviewed the ongoing efforts to transform it into a model facility.
On this occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Aparna M.B., SDM Adampur Vivek Modi, SDM Randeep Singh Heer, Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurmeet Lal, and Baljit Kaur from NGO Sun Foundation were also present.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner and Police Commissioner conducted a detailed review of the currently available treatment services and other facilities at the centre. They also interacted with the staff and the patients undergoing treatment to understand their needs.
They stated that the Punjab Government has launched the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign to eradicate drug abuse from the state.
Alongside strict action against drug trafficking, the government is also making solid efforts for the rehabilitation of drug-addicted individuals.
They further said that the rehabilitation centre at Shekhe village in Jalandhar is being established as a model de-addiction and rehabilitation centre at the state level. At this centre, drug-affected individuals will be provided with quality healthcare, psychological support, a gymnasium, skill development programs, employment opportunities for recovered patients, and comprehensive arrangements for their skill enhancement. They informed that computer and football-making courses have already commenced for those undergoing treatment. Additionally, a gymnasium and a library are being set up. The project is expected to be completed by May 31, 2025.
Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s strong commitment to the anti-drug mission, Dr. Aggarwal and Dhanpreet Kaur said the district administration will extend full support in reintegrating drug-affected individuals into mainstream society.
