Ludhiana, April 15

Sub-Divisional Engineer of the Public Works Department and renowned poet Sehajpreet Singh Mangat met with Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sanjeev Arora to brief him on the extensive upgradation and renovation work currently underway at Shaheed-e-Azam Sukhdev Thapar Girls School of Eminence, near Bharat Nagar Chowk.

Mangat informed MP Arora that the school, which caters to nearly 2,000 girl students and is staffed by around 90 teachers, is one of the leading educational institutions in Ludhiana district. With the efforts of late MLA Gurpreet Gogi, the school was declared a School of Eminence. Subsequently, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains took a personal interest in its development, approving a record-breaking Rs.17 crore grant for upgradation, renovation, and new construction — the highest amount ever sanctioned for any government school in Punjab’s history.

The ongoing work includes a complete renovation of the existing building, repairs to old bathrooms, replacement of the outdated sewer system, installation of new drinking water pipelines, and a comprehensive overhaul of the electrical system.

A state-of-the-art multipurpose indoor sports complex is being built for indoor games, alongside a spacious seminar hall and modern science laboratories. A welcoming reception area for students is under construction at the entrance, along with several new classrooms.

Additionally, brand-new basketball and badminton courts are being developed. The sides of the main ground will also feature tiered seating for students, enhancing the overall campus experience.

MP Sanjeev Arora urged Mangat to accelerate the pace of work to ensure timely completion.

Mangat presented MP Arora with a set of his six published books during the meeting.
