Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday slammed the Akali leadership for taking revenge from the Jathedars by unceremonious removing them.
On a query, the Chief Minister said that unceremonious removal of Jatehdar sahib is unfortunate as now the politics is choosing the religious leaders. He said that the Akalis had indulged in theatrics by apologising for the sins committed by them in full public glare at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. However, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that after the Jathedars pronounced Akali leadership guilty of their unpardonable sins, they are being targeted.
The Chief Minister said that out of vengeance the Akali leadership is removing the Jathedars which is unwarranted and undesirable. He said that this has bruised the psyche of entire Sikh community and they will never forgive them. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that this trend of picking and removing the Jathedar Sahib from the pocket of these ‘rejected leaders’ reflects the sorry state of affairs.
The Chief Minister said that Jathedars are highly revered by the entire Sikh Community and this type of behavior with them is unwarranted and undesirable. He said that ironically the validity of the interim committee which has removed the Jathedars has already expired around a decade ago as SGPC polls have not been held for a long time. Bhagwant Singh Mann urged the Government of India to immediately conduct the elections so that the Gurdawaras of the state can be freed from the modern day Mahants.
