Chandigarh, March 6
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President Aman Arora highlighted the success of the Punjab Government’s anti-drug campaign ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’ and shared several key updates with the media.
On Wednesday, during a press conference at the party office in Chandigarh, Aman Arora stated that the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government is committed to completely eradicating drugs from the state. The anti-drug campaign has achieved remarkable success and is receiving widespread support from the public. He noted that the issue concerns the youth of Punjab and their future, which is why people are openly praising this initiative.
Sharing details about the campaign, Arora revealed that the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign began on March 1. Within just four days, by March 4, police registered 580 FIRs under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and arrested 789 drug peddlers. Furthermore, approximately 74 kg of heroin, 19.5 kg of opium, and 77 kg of synthetic drugs have been seized, amounting to a total recovery of about 170 kg of drugs in just four days.
Speaking about the crackdown on gangsters and smugglers, Arora said that between February 25 and March 1, Punjab Police registered 61 FIRs against gangsters and smugglers in districts including Amritsar, Amritsar Rural, Moga, Tarn Taran, and Ferozepur alone.
Additionally, around 60 buildings linked to illegal encroachments on government land and drug trafficking have been demolished. These properties were acquired through unlawful means and drug trafficking, amounting to crores of rupees. Arora mentioned that previous governments had provided protection to drug peddlers. In contrast, the AAP government is taking strict action against them, which is why some people are opposing the campaign, but they will not succeed.
Arora stated that the times have changed now. No one can amass vast properties with drug money anymore. He highlighted that this crackdown has instilled immense fear among drug peddlers and gangsters, with visible results in several areas. Arora said that these individuals were protected by previous governments, allowing them to accumulate such significant properties.
Criticizing the Congress Party, Arora alleged that they are attempting to obstruct the government’s anti-drug campaign. He pointed out that the organization that filed a petition against the action in court is led by Congress members. He further stated that the previous Congress government provided official protection to drug peddlers, which is why they do not want action against the drug mafia.
Reiterating Aam Aadmi Party’s commitment to eradicating drugs, Arora asserted that no matter how much any party or individual tries to oppose this campaign, it will continue. He affirmed that the AAP government is determined to eliminate drugs from Punjab.
