‘HWR’ Airport Code allotted to Halwara Airport by IATA

The new airport coming up at Halwara airbase will be called Halwara Airport. The airport code HWR has been granted, which is mandatory before launching operations. Air India had applied for the same.

Airport Authority of India has requested that the Punjab Public Works Department (PWD) transfer full possession of the completed civil airport terminal. This handover is necessary for the airport to become operational. AAI Chairman Vipin Kumar informed Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora that the operational date will be determined after the terminal building is officially handed over to the AAI by PWD. The process of handing over will be completed soon.

MP Arora took up the matter with Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and urged him to ensure the formal handing over of the new terminal building by the Public Works Department to the AAI at the earliest for ensuring that the airport gets operation at the earliest possible.

Airlines’ operations will also be launched right after, with Air India showing interest in commercial flights once the airport becomes operational.

MP Arora has been relentlessly following up with various agencies and departments of the Central and State Government to make this a reality and put Ludhiana on the world map, which is also known as the Manchester of India. This airport will not only serve Ludhiana but also cater to the people of Malwa region and adjoining areas of some States.

MP Sanjeev Arora has assured that he will do whatever it takes for the early completion of Halwara Airport a Dream Project of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann.
