In a major breakthrough against interstate drug trafficking, Jalandhar Rural Police has successfully dismantled a sophisticated narcotics supply chain operating between Bihar and Punjab. The well-coordinated operations led to the seizure of substantial quantities of contraband and the arrest of four accused, revealing a meticulously planned trafficking network that exploited railway routes and used women carriers to evade detection.
The arrested accused have been identified as Pooja Kumari (24) and Babita Devi alias Babbo (29), both from Nawabganj Purabtola, and Arnav Kumar Jaiswal alias Lallan (24) from village Kursheila, all residents of District Katihar, Bihar. In a separate operation, the police apprehended Mohit Dhanda alias Mohit (24), a resident of Village Chuharwali, who was found in possession of heroin.
Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the arrests came following specific intelligence inputs about drug smuggling activities. The CIA staff, acting under the supervision of SP Investigation Jasroop Kaur IPS and DSP Investigation Sarvanjit Singh, mounted surveillance operations in strategic locations.
The Bihar-based smugglers were intercepted near Bidhipur railway gate, where they had been waiting with their contraband.
The special teams led by Inspector Pushap Bali, executed the operations with tactical precision. The first team apprehended the Bihar-based suspects on February 2, 2025, recovering 20.2 kg of ganja, while the second team arrested Mohit Dhanda on February 1, seizing 50 grams of heroin and a Honda Amaze car bearing registration number PB01-E-3617.
The police have registered two separate FIRs. FIR No. 24 dated 02.02.2025 under sections 20, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Maqusdan against the Bihar-based smugglers. Another FIR No. 16 dated 01.02.2025 under sections 21B, 61, 85 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Adampur against Mohit Dhanda.
Preliminary investigation has exposed a calculated modus operandi where the accused from Bihar transported ganja via train routes, strategically using women carriers to avoid suspicion. The local accused, Mohit Dhanda, already faces multiple criminal cases, including previous NDPS Act violations, indicating his deep involvement in the drug trade.
The arrested accused will be produced in the local court and their remand will be taken to check their forward and backward linkages.
SSP Khakh emphasized that the Jalandhar Rural Police maintains a zero tolerance policy against drugs, and smugglers will be dealt with iron hands.
