Five cyclists on “Kashmir to Kanyakumari expedition get warm welcome at Ferozepur

Ferozepur, January 23

A team of five passionate cyclists received a warm and floral welcome at Vivekananda World School, Ferozepur, as they continued their extraordinary 4,080-kilometer journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The mission, led by 63-year-old Satish Jadhav, aims to promote environmental awareness under the banner “Pollution-Free India,” inspiring communities to embrace cycling as a sustainable and health-friendly lifestyle.

The expedition, which began at Lal Chowk, Srinagar, is a remarkable testament to endurance and determination. The team plans to cover 100-150 kilometres daily over 40 days, adjusting to the challenges of terrain and weather. Remarkably, three of the five cyclists—Mangal Bhai Bhanusali, Jitendra Jain, and Jayanti Gala—are over 60 years old, exemplifying that age is no barrier to fitness and environmental advocacy.

Satish Jadhav emphasized the minimalist approach of the journey, which lacks a support vehicle or medical team. “We’re prepared to camp outdoors if accommodation isn’t available,” he shared, reflecting the team’s unwavering commitment to their cause.

Arriving in Ferozepur after cycling 400 kilometres, the team was greeted by Lakhbir Singh, Assistant Inspector General, Counter Intelligence, Ferozepur, Dr Gaurav Sagar Bhaskar, Chairman of Vivekananda World School, and Principal Tajinder Pal Kaur, along with other staff and students. The cyclists were honoured with mementoes, and Jadhav received a shawl in recognition of his leadership in promoting an eco-conscious lifestyle.

During their address, the cyclists passionately advocated for adopting bicycles as a practical solution to combat air and noise pollution, improve personal health, and reduce carbon footprints. “Cycling is not just a mode of transport; it’s a step toward a healthier and greener future,” they urged.

This expedition is inspired by a similar journey completed last month by cyclist Prajnachakshus, who led a tandem cycling adventure with 22 participants, including Jadhav. Building on that success, the current team aims to spread their message across the nation.

As the cyclists continue their ambitious ride toward Kanyakumari, their dedication serves as a powerful reminder of the environmental and health benefits of cycling, motivating communities to adopt sustainable practices for a better tomorrow.
