Barnala, December 12
Before the Municipal Council elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a major setback in Handiaya. On Wednesday, Gurmeet Singh, who served as a councilor twice for BJP, along with several district-level leaders, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Gurmeet Singh has served as a councilor for Handiaya Municipal Council twice. He has also been the BJP’s district president in Barnala for three terms. Along with him, BJP state executive member Harinder Singh Sidhu, BJP leaders Charanpreet Singh and Buta Singh also left BJP and joined AAP. Their joining will certainly strengthen the party in this region.
All the new leaders were formally inducted into the Aam Aadmi Party by Punjab State President Aman Arora at the party office in Chandigarh, where they were welcomed into the AAP family. On this occasion, Harinder Singh Dhaliwal, who was the party’s candidate in the Barnala Assembly by-election, was also present.
Welcoming the leaders into the party, Aman Arora launched an attack on BJP, stating that the BJP will be wiped out in this year’s municipal elections in Punjab. He said, “Now, in Punjab’s cities, the Aam Aadmi Party is the first choice of the people. The people are extremely satisfied with the work done by the AAP government in the last two and a half years. Now, they want to hand over the municipal administrations to the AAP as well.”
