MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today made a strong demand before the Punjab government and said that the government should appoint Vice Chancellors of universities as soon as possible. He said that 6 universities of Punjab are already working without VCs and now two more prestigious universities have joined them. Giving information through a press brief, MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that the prestigious universities of Punjab, Punjabi University, Patiala, Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, Sardar Beant Singh State University, Gurdaspur, Guru Ravidas Ayurveda University, Hoshiarpur and MBS Punjab Sports University, Patiala are already functioning without regular Vice Chancellors for three months to four years and now another prestigious university of the state, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran have also become without Vice Chancellors. MP Aujla said that the extended tenure of the current Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur State University of Law, Tarn Taran, Dr. Jaspal Singh has ended on November 16, 2024. After not receiving any instructions from the state government, he sent his relief letter to the concerned department, officials on Monday 18,2024. Now there is no regular Vice Chancellor in the university. He said that the Chancellor’s Office (Governor of Punjab) has not issued any order to give the charge of both the universities to the Secretary Higher Education.
He informed that at present, from 25 April 2024, the charge of Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala is with Principal Secretary Higher Education K.K. Yadav, IAS. The extended tenure of Executive Vice Chancellor K.K. Yadav is also ending on 25 November 2024.
He informed that Senior Faculty Member Dr. Sandeep Kansal is holding the executive charge of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University, Bathinda.
MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla said that higher education is of great importance but the government is playing with the future of the children by not paying attention to it. He said that the VC of universities is an important post and many important decisions are taken which cannot be done without VC. That is why keeping the future of the children important, he appeals that VCs should be appointed in the universities. He said that if anyone is facing any difficulty in this, they should put the problem before the public but this matter should not be ignored. This is a very important issue and these universities are world famous but the absence of VC is spoiling their image. Instead of appointing an acting VC, a regular VC should be appointed so that the institution which builds the future of children can develop and everyone can develop.
