Mohali DC Orders for fact-finding in farm fire incidents in Derabassi Area

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain today asked for fact-finding in farm fire incidents that occurred in Derabassi area. Taking a review meeting of the nodal officers, she said that it would be probed for what reason the farmers have set stubble on fire.

She said that the district had reported 26 cases, out of which only six cases have been found correct on the ground with the signs of burning. All six cases belong to the Derabassi area. She said that the Chief Agricultural Officer would submit the report by Wednesday with minute details. These details should include the area under paddy in a particular case, machinery available, reason behind the fire etc, of each case so that an analysis report could be prepared.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the nodal officers to submit details of those incidents also where the burning incident as per the given report of the Punjab Remote Sensing Center was not found on the ground with evidences. She said that the number of incidents reported is more but when the teams rushed to the spot, there was no sign of burning.

She cautioned the nodal officers to be careful and more attentive to take action on the farm fire incidents within no time besides educating the farmers about the ill effects and availability of machinery to handle the crop residue.

The meeting was attended by ADC Viraj S Tidke and Sonam Chaudhary, SP (Rural) Manpreet Singh, SDMs Gurmandar Singh and Damandeep Kaur, AC (G) Dr Ankita Kanasl, Tehsildar Derabassi Birkaran Singh, DR Cooperative Societies Gurbir Singh Dhillon, Chief Agricultural Officer Dr Gurmail Singh.
