The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police, Manjit Singh (No 2707), posted at police post Dakoha, under police station Rama Mandi, district Jalandhar for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5000.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said this above mentioned police official has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Manjit Rai, a resident of Man Singh Nagar, in Rama Mandi, Jalandhar on the Chief Minister’s Anti Corruption Action Line.
He further informed that the complainant has alleged in his complaint that he had submitted a police complaint against some persons for kidnapping his daughter and above said ASI had taken illegal gratification of Rs 5,000 for locating the whereabouts of his daughter.
The spokesperson added that during verification, the allegations levelled in the said complaint have been found correct and taking Rs 5000 bribe has been proved.
He further informed that on the basis of this investigation report a case under prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the said police personnel at VB police station Jalandhar range. The accused police personnel would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation into this case was under progress.
