Rajya Sabha MP Sanjiv Arora convened a meeting on Friday with Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and other officials to discuss on-going development projects in Ludhiana and other parts of the district.
The meeting was attended by Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, GLADA Chief Administrator Harpreet Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Bains, SDM Payal Kritika Goyal, Civil Surgeon Dr. Pardeep Kumar Mohindra, and officials from Civil Hospital, NHAI, Airport Authority of India, Public Works Department, Punjab Health Systems Corporation, and others.
The discussions focused on the progress of development works at Halwara Airport, NHAI Projects, Civil Hospital, government school, and projects related to the MPLAD Scheme. Arora reviewed the progress of the on-going works at the Halwara Airport project and assured full support for addressing issues requiring intervention from the Central Government and other agencies. Airport is ready other than work on IAF side which Arora promised to take up with IAF personnel. Also, security system to be installed between IAF side and civil was discussed in detail with Bell security system personnel.
Additionally, he discussed various National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects, including Delhi-Katra, Ludhiana-Ropar Highway, Ludhiana-Bathinda, Southern Bypass, construction of four bridges over the Sidhwan canal, beautification under Ludhiana-Ferozepur elevated highway, cycle track, and parking lots. All the projects are on track and NHAI was asked to speed up the process.
Furthermore, the MP emphasised the importance of quality materials being used in the development works at the Civil Hospital worth crores, and obtained the latest status of works initiated under the MPLAD scheme. He said, “It is correct that the doctors and the staff play a key role in any hospital but better environment also play an important role in providing relief to the suffering people.”. He, therefore, opine that the overall environment of civil hospital should look neat, clean and hygienic from every aspect.
The Civil Surgeon and the SMO apprised Arora that there is a dire need of a forensic expert in the civil hospital. On this, Arora immediately on mobile phone requested the Health Minister Punjab Dr Balbir Singh and took up this matter with him. The Minister gave a positive response to Arora.
Regarding beautification below the newly constructed elevated road on Ferozepur road, Arora said 7 industrialists have been shortlisted to maintenance of the same.
During this meeting, Arora also discussed about some black spots in the city to check road accidents and creating 700 parking sites along elevated road on Ferozepur road.
Arora asked Municipal Commissioner to workout in case some cycle tracks could be set up within the city besides the already sanctioned 21-Km-long cycle track by NHAI.
He strictly asked contractors and other officials to complete their tasks within stipulated time at the under-construction Halwara Airport. He categorically stated that no leniency would be tolerated at any cost because the project has already been delayed for one or another reason. He hoped that commercial flights would be started from this airport in the near future.
The Deputy Commissioner Jorwal directed all departments and agencies to expedite their pace to ensure speedy completion and instructed them to hold meetings with the concerned contractors.
