A talent identification program is being conducted by the Cycling Federation of India with the aim of encouraging youth for sports at the grassroots level. Under which the sports trails of budding sportspersons of Patiala were conducted at Polo Ground Patiala. Boys and girls (12 to 14 years) from Patiala, Sangrur, SAS Nagar, Malerkotla and Fatehgarh Sahib had participated in these trails.
Giving information in this regard, the convener of the talent identification program and Maharaja Ranjit Singh awardee, Jagdeep Singh Kahlon expressed gratitude towards the district administration for the support regarding these trails. He especially thanked Showkat Ahmed Parray, Deputy Commissioner for his support and guidance.
Kahlon said that the talent identification program is being conducted under the guidance of Onkar Singh, Secreatry General, Asian Cycling Confederation and Maninderpal Singh, Secretary General, CFI in the whole of Punjab, the main purpose of which is to connect the youth with sports and especially cycling so that Cycling can be promoted in Punjab. Under this, the youngsters are being selected and they would be sent to the academies of the Cycling Federation of India, where their accommodation, food, training, sports equipment will be provided free of cost.
Kahlon said that the budding sportspersons from all the districts of Punjab are being selected through trials and the selected players would be sent for the final trials in Delhi.
In these trials, the sportspersons had passed the standing broad jump, high jump (vertical) and 1600 meters for boys and 800 meters for girls. He said that no stone would be left unturned for the upliftment of the sports.
On this occasion DSP (Traffic) Karnail Singh, Asian Medalist Naman Kapal, Convenor Bakhshish Singh, DSO SAS Nagar Harpinder Singh, DSO Patiala Rupesh Kumar, International Cyclist Sukhjinder Singh, APRO Satinderpal Singh, Former Handball coach Surinder Singh Shinda, High Performance Manager Manish Sahni, Charanjit Singh, Gurpal Singh, Mohit Singh Cycling Coach, Gurpreet Kaur Cycling Coach, Rana Kauli, Team of Civil Surgeon Patiala, Coaches of Sports Department, large number of participants and sports lovers were present.
