Kapurthala police today busted 12 members gang of extortions operated by US based international gagster and terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa and his UK based accomplice Harjit Singh Bhandal and recovered three pistols,26 cartridges and two motorcycles from their possession.
This was disclosed here today by Senior Superintendent of Police Vatsala Gupta in a press conference .
She further disclosed that Kapurthala police in a joint operation by a team of counter intelligence arrested today three gangsters in a police naka at sultanpurlodhi and after their arrests police arrested ten more gang members after raids conducted at jalandhar, Hoshiarpur and Sangrur districts.Police recovered three country made pistols , 26 live cartridges and two motorcycles from their possession.
SSP said gangster jasbir Singh ,Maninder Singh and Gurjit Singh went to the house of a businessman in Sultanpurlodhi and fired at his house following directions from International gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa and Harjit Singh Bhandal . Police said Landa had demanded a ransom of rupees 2 crore from a businessman (whose identity is not disclosed due to security reasons)of Sultanpurlodhi and threatened to kill him.After the threatening call, Landa and Bhandal deputed the gang to threaten the businessman by firing at his house on march 10.
The businessman lodged a complaint to the police .Police formed a special investigation team headed by SP (Investigation) Sarbjit Singh Rai who busted the gang in a joint operation with counter intelligence team of Jalandhar.
SSP said all the gang members are in early twenties from poor back ground and gangster Landa had promised to pay rupees seventy thousand for executing the crime and paid rupees seven thousand in advance.
Police said gangster Jasbir Singh Jassa was a proclaimed offender in eight criminal cases of extortions and thefts.
The arrested gangsters identified as Jasbir Singh,Maninder Singh,Gurjit Singh,Yuvraj Kumar,Angrej Singh,Manpreet Singh, Daharminder Singh,Jaspreet Singh, Balwinder Singh,Sukhpreet Singh, Harjit Singh and Vishal.
Police registered a criminal case under extortion act and arms act against the accused.
