The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, former President of the Haryana Congress Committee, and in-charge of Uttarakhand, Kumari Selja said that if anyone has suffered the most exploitation and oppression during the tenure of the BJP-JJP Alliance government, it is the farmers, who have been constantly deceived, betrayed, and subjected to the most injustice by this government.

Whenever the farmer raises their voice for their rights, they are suppressed by force. The government hasn’t fulfilled even a single promise made to the farmers.

While safeguarding the interests of capitalists, the government is unable to protect the interests of farmers. The day is not far when the country’s food providers will show this silent government the way out of power.

In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that the government, agricultural insurance companies, and banks are colluding with each other. They are refunding the Kharif 2023 insurance premium to farmers after 5 months, which is legally incorrect. If a farmer has paid the premium, they should receive compensation for the damaged crop, which is their right. Moreover, in most districts, the government has not processed claims for the damaged crops due to the 2022-23 Rabi season rainfall. Farmers are still demanding compensation for the Kharif-2020 dues.

She said that the BT cotton seed company is engaged in looting farmers under government protection. Poor-quality BT cotton seeds sold in the market have increased the incidence of pink bollworm. The government should make efforts to improve the quality of BT cotton seeds, and legal action should be taken against companies selling substandard seeds in the market. Farmers should be provided with good seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides. If a farmer suffers losses due to counterfeit seeds, fertilizers, or pesticides, either the companies or the government should compensate them.

She Said that this year, due to the pink bollworm infestation, the cotton yield has been very low, causing double losses to the farmers because both purchasing agencies and cotton factory owners are engaged in looting the farmers. The government should take strict measures to stop the looting under the pretext of buying cotton.

She said that the government claims to work for the true interests of farmers, but the Agriculture Department has not released the grant amount for the farmers’ water ponds for the past 2 years. Dairy farmers are being looted by cooperative dairy committees and private milk product companies in the name of milk rates.

She talks about promoting horticulture, but the kinnow-producing farmers are suffering losses due to not getting the right rates. The government hasn’t done anything for the farmers that they could say is being done for them. While safeguarding the interests of capitalists, the government is unable to protect the interests of farmers. The day is not far when the country’s food providers will show this silent government the way out of power.
