Haryana empowers Panchayats, waives e-tendering for small works

Haryana Development and Panchayats Minister Devender Singh Babli said that the state has empowered panchayats by giving them more powers.

The e-tendering system has been waived for small and immediate works in villages. Gram panchayats can now get works costing less than Rs 5 lakh done without e-tendering on the basis of quotations.

.Babli was addressing villagers after inaugurating various development projects worth Rs 6 crore in villages Narel, Udaypur, Jakhal, Talwara, Sadhanwas, Sidhani, Mundalia, Meon Khurd, Meond Kalan, Bhurthali Dhani, Lehradeh, Shakarpura, Musakheda, Rupan Wali, and Diwana of Jakhal in Fatehabad district on Wednesday.

He said that a social audit committee has been formed to expedite and ensure timely completion of rural development works. In addition, a monitoring committee has been formed to oversee the quality of development works.

He said that the formation of these committees has increased transparency in rural development works.

The panchayat minister stated that gram panchayats and other public representatives had suggested that some work could be done immediately and at a lower cost. Acting on these suggestions, the government has decided that panchayats can get works costing less than Rs 5 lakh done on the basis of quotations using 50 percent of their revenue. He said that this will also maintain transparency in the village and will speed up the works that need to be done immediately.

The cabinet minister said that the department has prepared a nine-point program to provide facilities like cities in villages.

He said that the Development and Panchayat Department is undertaking many developments works in villages, including the construction of water tanks, e-libraries, gymnasiums, women’s cultural centres, multipurpose community centres, and the renovation of Johar.
