Haryana Chief Secretary, Sanjeev Kaushal said that the state government has initiated steps to reuse treated wastewater from Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) at the DeenBandhu Bandhu Choturam Thermal Power Plant in Yamunanagar.
Presiding over the State Level High Power Committee meeting here today, Kaushal said that the state government has notified the Reuse of Treated Waste Water (TWW) Policy. This policy aims to conserve and optimize water resources in the face of rapidly depleting levels. It envisions the comprehensive utilization of treated wastewater in various sectors, including thermal plants, industries, construction, horticulture, and irrigation. Notably, the government has now mandated that thermal plants within a 60-kilometer radius of municipal Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) must incorporate treated wastewater into their operations.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared for managing treated wastewater at the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant (DCRTPP) in Yamuna Nagar was discussed in detail in the meeting. DCRTPP plans to reuse treated wastewater from Yamuna Nagar’s STPs for various non-potable applications, such as cooling tower makeup, ash handling, coal handling, and flue gas desulphurization (FGD).
Kaushal directed that a sub-committee, led by the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) and Financial Commissioner, Revenue and Disaster Management and Consolidation Department to meticulously evaluate the DPR, explore additional possibilities for treated wastewater utilization, and directed officers from the Public Health Engineering Department to expedite the finalization of the proposal within the stipulated time frame.
