The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and former Union Minister Kumari Selja said that the BJP-JJP, which pretends to be the biggest supporter of OBCs, is actually their biggest enemy.

They have reduced the annual income limit for non-creamy layer OBCs in the state to 6 lakhs as opposed to the central government’s 8 lakhs. This is the biggest betrayal of the OBCs. The coalition government should immediately raise this limit to match that of the central government.

In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that since the BJP came to power in 2014, no work has been done for the OBCs in the state that can be remembered.

On the contrary, a conspiracy has been hatched to rob the rights of their children by reducing the income limit of creamy layer OBCs. The decrease in the income limit to 6 lakhs has reduced opportunities for professional courses and government jobs for OBC families.

The former Union Minister said that including all sources of income in the calculation of total annual income, including salary and agricultural income, of Rs. 6 lakhs is absolutely wrong. This also violates the directives issued by the center.

“The coalition government has made no improvement in reservation for OBCs in government jobs. It is clear that the government is completely anti-OBC and wants to prevent their progress,” she said.

Kumari Selja said that the backward class society has always been hardworking. They are the foundation of our society, and Congress has never left any stone unturned in their dignity and respect.

“Congress provided ample representation to people from backward classes in their government so that the voice of the backward class doesn’t weaken at any level. In the BJP-JJP Alliance Government, even the boards associated with the backward class remained inactive for many years, with no appointments made. No separate plans were made for their welfare or initiatives taken to encourage their children’s education through new scholarships. It’s evident that BJP remembers the backward class only for votes, without doing any work for them,” she added.

Selja stated that the BJP government’s words and actions are different for everyone, and hence, every class in the country and the state is unhappy with the BJP government’s double standards. What is being done for the OBC class by the state government proves to be against the principles of fairness.
