The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Harjinder Singh Dhami has written a letter to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, who is facing death sentence at Central Jail Patiala and has appealed to him to withdraw his decision to start a hunger strike from December 5, 2023.
The SGPC President has written this letter to Bhai Rajoana in light of the decision of the Sikh body’s executive committee and the suggestions received in the recent meeting of Panthic representatives. In this letter, Bhai Rajoana has been appealed to withdraw his decision to go on hunger strike, as it is not right as per the Gurmat (teachings of Sikh Gurus) philosophy.
In the letter, Harjinder Singh Dhami informed Bhai Rajoana about the decision of the SGPC executive and said that the constitutional review petition filed by the SGPC in his case to the President of India was based on Panthic sentiments, which should not be withdrawn.
The SGPC President while addressing Bhai Rajoana said that he is a Qaumi Parwana (community figure) and the community can never forget the sacrifice he has made with determination and bravery at the time when the community faced crisis.
