Chandigarh, October 26

Sangrur MP and SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann requested Chief Election Commissioner Gurdwara Elections Justice (Retd.) SS Saron to extend last date of making voter lists for upcoming SGPC polls.

While addressing media at Chandigarh today, Mann informed he has written a letter in this regard.

In the letter, he said it is sad and regrettable that the eligible Sikh voters are facing great difficulties in casting their votes. Because the responsibility of polling by the Punjab government has been given to the Patwaris, 5-5, 10-10 Patwar constituencies have been given to the Patwari class. While all the Patwaris are asking to work only in their constituency and others are refusing to work at places with additional charge. Due to which there is a big problem for the voters.

” It is also important to mention here that there are around 13800 villages in Punjab, out of which 8000 places do not have Patwaris. Then, due to the small number of Patwarias, these votes will not be able to be held properly and at the right time. Therefore, if by your instruction, the duty of Anganwadi workers or teachers is imposed to make votes for Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, Zilla Parishads etc. by the Election Commission Punjab and those house- They go home and make votes. If the same arrangement is made, then every eligible Sikh will feel ease in voting and a large number of Sikh votes will be registered. Otherwise, 50% of the votes will not be cast, wrote Mann.

He also demanded to reduce the age of voters from 21 years to 18 years.

He added that the Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar requests you as the Chief Election Commission Gurdwara that when the SGPC elections were held in 2011, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar was given as the ‘horse’ of the election symbol at that time. The election was successful.

“In our Sikh community, this horse election Nissan has been our party election Nissan since then. Therefore, the horse election symbol should be re-reserved for our party,” said Mann.
