Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana resolves to indefinitely abstain from work from today to protest against inhuman treatment of a lawyer by Police

Chandigarh, September 26

The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has unanimously resolved to indefinitely abstain from work with effect from 26.09.2023, in solidarity with our colleague, a member of bar association of Sri Muktsar Sahib who has been subjected to inhumane torture by accused police officials. The said strike shall continue indefinitely till the following demands of the lawyers are met;

1. The investigation of the entire incident shall be transferred outside state of Punjab to some independent agency in Haryana or Chandigarh.

2. The false FIR registered against the lawyer shall be cancelled with immediate effect.

Writ petition is being filed in the Hon’ble Punjab & Haryana High Court by the executive committee of Bar Association for seeking the investigation of this case outside the State of Punjab.
