HAFED to boost export of basmati rice

Chandigarh, September 12

A high-level business delegation of The Haryana State Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation Limited (HAFED) comprising of Chairman HAFED Kailash Bhagat, Dr. J. Ganesan, IAS, Managing Director HAFED and Rajnish Sharma General Manager (Marketing) met with several businessmen in the UAE dealing with export of Basmati Rice. Meetings were held with the leading exporter of Basmati Rice based out at Dubai, post which an export deal for 1000 MT was finalized. Chairman Hafed said that this deal has broken new grounds and paved the way further for expanding exports in a massive way.

Meetings were also held with Abdulla Ateeq Aldarmaki, Director, Silal Food and Technology, a leading government-based company of the UAE dealing with the food society.

This meeting was facilitated by Monish Behl who is a reputed industrialist from Middle East having several steel plants/industries and other business across Middle East and has played a key role in promoting the Haryana Govts initiatives in the Middle East besides in getting business for HAFED matured and also getting Hafed introduced in the Middle East market with several big buyers .when spoken to him he said that he is committed to furthering all Haryana initiatives and interests in the Middle East as including the present HAFED business ventures. He also said that he is personally motivated by the sincerity and sense of purpose of the Hon’ble CM putting all efforts to make state of Haryana a front-runner amongst all other states.

Chairman Hafed Kailash Bhagat mentioned that the talks were successful and would very soon lead to a government-to-government agreement on exporting rice and sugar to the UAE. He has sent an invitation on behalf of the Hon’ble Chief Minister Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar to Abdulla Ateeq Aldarmaki to visit Chandigarh in order to finalize the agreement.

Dr J Ganesan, IAS, Managing Director HAFED stated that Hafed has recently procured export orders of 85000 MT Basmati Rice valuing approximately Rs 850 crore from the leading importer of Saudi Arabia. Out of which export order of 62000 MT has been executed successfully and rest is under process of execution. Encouraged with successful export to Saudi Arabia, HAFED has planned to expand its export business in other countries also. HAFED is also making commercial purchases of basmati paddy directly from farmers for export of Basmati Rice.
