DC Kapurthala orders to ensure timely investigation under Prevention of Atrocities Act

Deputy Commissioner Captain Karnail Singh today directed the district Police, district Attorney and district Welfare office to ensure investigation of cases under the Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989 related to Scheduled Castes in a time-bound manner so that the victims can get timely justice.

Today in a meeting here at DAC, Deputy Commissioner has asked the District Welfare Officer to provide the compensation to the affected people in all approved cases under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.

In the meeting, the cases registered by the Punjab police and being fought by the District Attorney Kapurthala were also discussed. It was decided in the meeting to put more efforts to get these cases resolved on priority basis.

He said that instructions have already been issued to all the SPs and DSPs of the district to ensure timely justice to the victims keeping in mind the sensitivity of the cases registered under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.

He also asked the officials to start an awareness campaign among the masses about this Act.

DWO Harpal Singh Gill said that under the Prevention of Atrocities Act 1989, if any type of atrocities are committed against a person belonging to a Scheduled Caste by a non-Scheduled Caste person, legal action is being ensured against the accused, and compensation is being provided to the victim by the government as per provision of this Act.

On this occasion, Chetna Gill, District Attorney, Barjinder Singh, DSP, Tirth Ram Basra, Principal Government College, Gurmukh Singh Dhod, Sudesh Sharma, Advocate Surmeet Sandhu, Sukhjinder Mohan Bhatia were present .
