Army starts rescue operations in Punjab

As requested by the home department of the Punjab government, the western command started rescue operations in various parts of the state.

Flood Relief Operations by Army

The army received the requisition from DC Patiala and Ropar for assistance due to breach in river and canal. The operations and evacuation process have started there.

A recce party has been dispatched to assess the situation at Ropar where again a breach has taken place in a canal leading to inundation of villages. The column will move based on assessment.

Similarly, columns at Rajpura have started evacuation from an Old Age Home. The reinforcement of Bundh to prevent breach towards Rajpura is also being done.

The army is also clearing water from Chitkara University where almost 2000 students are stranded. So far, 910 students have been evacuated by the army.
