In order to implement the ban on prohibited plastic carry bags, a joint team of PPCB Officials and MC Mohali carried out a raid on a manufacturer and confiscated 500 Kilograms of plastic carry bags.
Divulging details, the Deputy Commissioner, SAS Nagar, Ashika Jain informed that regular inspections are being carried by PPCB (Punjab Pollution Control Board) and ULBS (Urban Local Bodies) for enforcing ban on Single use Plastic items banned by the Government of India and the drive will be intensified further.
The Progress of the inspection is monitored during the review meeting of the District Environment Committee, she added.
Environmental Engineer, PPCB, Mohali, Gursharan Dass Garg said that initially PPCB visited the industry located at Phase-9, Industrial Area, Mohali and observed that the industry has stored huge quantity of recycled plastic carry bags in its premises and accordingly MC Mohali officials were called for confiscation of plastic carry bags and for challaning. He said that the manufacturing, storage, recycling, distribution, use of plastic carry bags has been banned in the State w.e.f 01.04.2016.
He further exhorted the general public to avoid use of plastic carry bags and promote use of Jute & cloth bags while going to market.
