The 61st Annual Athletic Meet of Sainik School Kapurthala was commenced today, marking the beginning of a three-day extravaganza. Brigadier Harcharan Singh Boparai, a former international hockey player and vice-captain of the 1975 World Cup Hockey Team, graced the event as the chief guest.
To inaugurate the meet, Brigadier Boparai released a balloon into the sky, symbolising the spirit of dynamism and peaceful sportsmanship.
In his address, he emphasised the role of sports in developing human emotions and fostering a sense of harmony. He stressed the importance of participation in sports while highlighting that becoming a victor is crucial.
Citing examples of cricket icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni and javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, Brigadier Boparai underscored the fame and recognition that sports can bring. He encouraged regular practice to achieve success and expressed confidence in the Sainik School cadets’ ability to excel in every field, urging them to aspire for the National Defence Academy.
The chief guest commended the march past, praising the cadets’ fitness and agility. He also lauded the school band’s performance, stating that its reputation extends nationwide. The aerobics display by sixth-grade cadets received special appreciation.
The event saw the warm welcome of the chief guest by Group Captain Madhu Sengar, the Principal, and Wing Commander Deepika Rawat, the Vice Principal. Distinguished guests included K.S. Randhawa, Principal of MGN Public School, Jalandhar and prominent lawyer Ravi Bhullar. Other notable attendees were Olympian Ripudaman Kumar Singh, Arjuna Awardee Sajjan Singh Cheema and international hockey player Jagdish Chander, among others.
This grand sports meet not only celebrates the physical fitness and competitive spirit of the cadets but also reinforces the values of discipline, teamwork, and national pride that Sainik Schools are known for nurturing.
The day’s competition results showcased outstanding performances across various categories, with students from different houses demonstrating their athletic prowess in events ranging from 200-meter sprints to 1500-meter races. The results are as follow:
