Sangrur, October 8

Taking a leap ahead from the traditional system of police, Sangrur police have introduced drastic changes to bring transparency, efficiency and respite for the public visiting police stations across the district.

SSP Swapan Sharma said that since it had become difficult for the women and elderly to reach police station during evening hours, a round the clock helpline number 112 has been introduced at district level for them.

“Now they need not to come at their respective police station instead the police will knock their doors,” Swapan said. He added that separate teams are formed for this task and also the policemen doing multitasking of court-cases, VIP, VVIP duties, dharna and other duties too are segregated accordingly.

“Now police deployed in police stations will only focus their attention towards detecting crime and cracking pending criminal cases,” he said.

Providing succour to the womenfolk, the Sangrur police have also setup Women and Economic Crime Cells at each Sub-Division. Divulging more details, the SSP stated that from now onwards women and economic offence related complaints will be heard exclusively in these newly formed cells. Earlier this cell was only at district level but now these services are made available to the public in all the seven sub-divisions of the district.

The SSP said that these changes are done to bring respite for the public so that no one, especially the women and elderly should not suffer anywhere in police stations of the district.
