Varinder Singh, a progressive farmer from Hoshiarpur sows wheat without burning straw

On behalf of the Department of Agriculture, the awareness campaign for the farmers of the district not to burn the straw has gained momentum and the trend of not burning the straw is decreasing.

An example of this is farmer Varinder Singh of Gag Sultan village of block Dasuha. For the last few years, Varinder Singh has been sowing paddy straw without setting fire to it with different agricultural machinery like MB plow and rotavator.

Varinder Singh has also procured Super Cider on subsidy this year in collaboration with the Agriculture Department so that wheat can be sown on time without setting fire to the standing stalks of paddy. Due to its modern and environment friendly farming, this farmer remains a source of inspiration for other farmers in the vicinity. He informed that he has been cultivating for about 20 years and cultivates wheat, paddy and sugarcane in 33 acres of land . For the last few years, Varinder Singh has been sowing wheat with subsidized equipment for the management of straw residues in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture instead of setting fire to the residues of paddy and sugarcane.
