The Department of Animal Husbandry is launching a vaccination campaign against measles from May 6 to protect animals from diseases. Under this series, a target has been set to vaccinate 1 lakh 40 thousand animals in Fatehgarh Sahib district. Giving information in this regard Deputy Director Animal Husbandry, Fatehgarh Sahib Dr. Gurinder Singh Walia said that under this campaign, 42 teams of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Inspectors would carry out vaccination against measles in the villages of the district and during this time all the precautions against coronavirus would be followed.

He said that due to the disease of goiter, the animals get a high fever and the throat becomes swollen and there is difficulty in breathing and the infected animal dies within a few hours. The disease is most likely to occur during the rainy season, which is why the campaign is being launched before the monsoon.

He said that this vaccination would be done at subsidized rates at the rate of Rs. 5 per dose and ear tag would be mandatory in the ears of every animal. This will enable the identification of the animals and will not cause any problem to the animal keepers while insuring or selling the animals. He said that after this vaccination campaign, vaccinations would also be given to prevent foot and mouth disease.
