Chandigarh, June 16
Leaders and workers of the Punjab Congress were detained by the Chandigarh police when they were staging a protest in front of the Punjab Congress Bhawan against the Central government here on Thursday. The leaders also faced water cannons from the police force. The Congress party led by president Raja Warring had decided to gherao the Punjab Raj Bhawan due to unnecessary harassment of Rahul Gandhi by ED in the National Herald case. They first gathered at Punjab Congress Bhawan at 10 am but the protest turned violent when the cops tried to stop them from marching towards Raj Bhavan.
