In a major crackdown on the illicit sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products and smoking in public places, under Mission Tandrust, 12 challans were issued under Tobacco Act 2003 by Food Safety team of smokers in public places and shopkeepers selling tobacco in the open, under the tutelage of Civil Surgeon Dr.Rajinder Arora and Dr.Satpal Bhagat, designated officer Food Safety along with Harwinder Singh, Food Safety Officer.
The team emphasized the sellers not sell the products in open and keep all the food articles covered. The team also made the shopkeepers aware of food safety norms and asked them to follow the same strictly
FSO said the grocery shopkeepers are not allowed to sell tobacco in their shops who were directed to pay special attention to cleanliness and install ‘No Tobacco Boards’ at their shops besides refusing to sell the intoxicant materials to children below the age of 18 years.
