Tript Bajwa congratulates fish farmers on ‘World Fisheries Day’

Punjab Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, while congratulating the fish farmers of the state on the “World Fisheries Day” celebrated every year on 21st November, has called for maximum fish production and employment generation.

Bajwa said that the main objective of celebrating this day is to motivate people to preserve and use the fish source in natural water resources properly so that these sources can be preserved for the coming generations. He said that Punjab is the land of five rivers, hence the importance of this day increases even more in Punjab. He said that efforts are being made by the State Government to preserve these natural resources and to produce more and more fish in fish sheds. These efforts are also creating employment opportunities in rural areas.

Fisheries Minister informed that Punjab Chief Minister under the able leadership of Charanjit Singh Channi, the state is making steady progress in the field of fisheries. In Punjab, special emphasis is being laid on developing infrastructure for fisheries and increasing the production of fish. In this regard, another new Government Fish Poon Farm is being established by the Government at village Kilianwali, District Fazilka. This farm will provide quality fish pudding at concessional rates to the farmers of District Fazilka, Sri Muktsar Sahib and other nearby districts.

Similarly, a wholesale-cum-retail fish market is being set up by the government in district Patiala to take clean fish to the consumers. Apart from this, ice boxes including four wheelers, three wheelers and two wheelers are being provided on subsidy by the government to transport clean fish and to provide new means of employment to the youth.
